Having just renovated their home to establish a sociable, open-plan living arrangement, our clients were looking to create a stylish yet inviting kitchen. They needed a practical space that would make the whole family feel included. The island plays an essential role in forming an efficient and sociable layout. It provides plenty of space to prepare and cook food while facing the room. This allows whoever’s cooking to chat with friends and family, perfect whether the kids are doing homework at the table or guests are mingling with drinks. The island also creates a boundary between the food prep and living areas, preventing people from getting in the way.

Highland Stone grey units bring a bright and elegant feel to the space. Meanwhile, a vibrant splash of Inkwell blue adds a brilliant pop of character. Our Colyton clients chose their own tiles for the splashback. The decorative mosaic pattern introduces a wonderful, homely element to the scheme. As part of an open-plan living space, we felt it vital to incorporate plenty of personality into the design. The open shelving on the island and far wall allows our client to display all their favourite ornaments and cookbooks, softening the clean-lined modern cabinetry.
